Jamie Carragher has hit out at Southampton for a "disgraceful" performance during their 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester City on Friday night.

Ryan Bertrand's red card in the 12th minute of the game set in motion a rampant first half from the visitors which saw them go 5-0 up.

The rampage continued in the second period, with the Foxes adding four further goals as Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy both claimed hat-tricks.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after the game, Carragher said: "Shocking. I felt sorry for them in some ways. Some of those players there were a disgrace really. You don't see 9-0. What is the backbone in this team?

"A disgraceful performance – that's one of the worst performances of any team in Premier League history."

The result equals the highest ever winning margin in a Premier League fixture, with Manchester United beating Ipswich Town by the same scoreline in March 1995.

Brendan Rodgers's side are now third in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Liverpool, who face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
