Fabian Delph not surprised by Harry Kane rise

Fabian Delph is not surprised by his England teammate Harry Kane's rise to prominence this season.

Fabian Delph has insisted that Harry Kane's rise to international stardom is no surprise ahead of England's friendly with Italy on Tuesday.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane came off the bench for his senior international debut in Friday night's Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Lithuania and scored his country's fourth goal just 79 seconds after coming on.

Delph, who started at Wembley, believes that Kane's hard work is the main reason for his emergence this season.

"I can believe [his rise], he's a really hard worker, great talent, still young, still got time to progress as well," the Aston Villa midfielder told a press conference. "But he'll keep his feet on the ground and I'm sure he'll keep pushing on."

Asked if Kane would get his vote in the end-of-season Player of the Year awards, Delph said: "I think he'll get my vote, there's obviously a few contenders. I'll pick wisely and I can't see why I wouldn't pick Harry."

With 19 goals in the Premier League, Kane is the joint-top scorer along with Diego Costa of Chelsea.
