David Moyes "thrilled" with West Ham United response

David Moyes describes the performance of his West Ham United players against Southampton as "terrific", having boosted their survival hopes with a 3-0 victory.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has hailed the reaction of his players in beating Southampton 3-0 to put recent events behind them.

The Hammers were comfortable winners in their first match at the London Stadium since the pitch invasion catastrophe of three weeks ago when tensions boiled over.

In complete contrast to the 3-0 loss to Burnley on March 10, West Ham looked fired up and had a two-goal lead in the opening quarter of the match, which they added to before the first half was over.

Moyes admits that he was "thrilled" by the response shown, and he also praised United supporters for getting behind their team right from the off.

"In the opening part of the game we were terrific, the players showed how they felt from past events," he told reporters at his post-match presser. "They made it known to everyone they were pent up and ready to go. I was thrilled with the performance.

"Before kickoff, the fans showed their support for the club and the team. And the players said we'll show you what we'll do. Today the supporters were terrific, and the players did everything they could. I hope we can give the supporters more of that, but I can't guarantee it."

West Ham last netted three first-half goals in a Premier League game against Fulham in September 2012.
