New Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has dismissed suggestions that he is looking to sign former Bolton Wanderers forward Kevin Davies this summer.
Davies, 36, is available on a free transfer after being released by Bolton, where he played under Coyle between 2010 and 2012.
"Kevin was my skipper and an outstanding player," Coyle told reporters. "It would be remiss of me to mention individual players, but he is a good lad.
"I think there is a bit of interest in Kevin, but it is probably not what we are looking to bring into the football club, although he is an outstanding man."
Davies, who scored 73 goals in 351 league appearances for the Trotters, is believed to be keen on a move to Sheffield Wednesday.
