Huddersfield Giants too strong for Widnes Vikings

A dominant second-half performance hands Huddersfield Giants their first win of the Super League season as they beat Widnes Vikings 24-12.

Huddersfield Giants dominated the second half of their match against Widnes Vikings to secure a 24-12 victory in the Super League this evening.

Joe Mellor put the visitors ahead early on, but Scott Grix managed to pick up a Danny Brough kick forward to level the scores soon after.

Huddersfield made a strong start to the second half, with tries from Jermaine McGillvary and Joe Wardle putting them in front, but Brough missed both conversions.

The missed kicks allowed Widnes to keep the scores close as Manase Manuokafoa charged over for the visitors, cutting the gap to just two points.

Wardle weaved through to add a second shortly after though, while Eorl Crabtree was over a few minutes later to take the game away from the Vikings.

The win is Huddersfield's first of the season, and moves them up to 10th in the table, while Widnes sit sixth following the loss.
