Michael Cheika staying grounded after Australia victory over New Zealand

Australia coach Michael Cheika tries to stay grounded after seeing his side beat New Zealand to win the Rugby Championship.

Australia coach Michael Cheika has refused to get carried away by seeing his side beat New Zealand to win the Rugby Championship.

The Wallabies ended a 10-match winless streak against the All Blacks on Saturday to get their hands on the trophy for the first time.

However, Cheika is hoping that his players will quickly turn their focus to next weekend's return fixture against New Zealand in Auckland rather than celebrate too hard.

"I don't want to be a sad sack, but you take a moment to congratulate your players and then you start thinking about the next game and what you have to do to be ready," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"The reality is that we've only won one game against New Zealand in a long time and me more than anyone knows that stands for only a little bit.

"Consistency is key and we have to go out there and prepare each day to be competitive again with the number one team in the world on their own patch. That's our target."

Australia's victory over the All Blacks has also kept their hopes of clinching the Bledisloe Cup alive ahead of next week's clash in New Zealand.
