Ross Ford eyes Scotland cap record

Scotland hooker Ross Ford sets his sights on breaking Chris Paterson's cap record for the team ahead of his 100th appearance.

Scotland hooker Ross Ford has set his sights on breaking Chris Paterson's appearance record for the team.

Ford will become the first forward and just the third player to reach 100 caps for Scotland when they host Australia at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Paterson (109) and Sean Lamont (105) are the only players in Scotland history with more appearances, and the 32-year-old Ford is not considering retirement anytime soon.

"It is a massive honour. There is Mossi (Paterson) and Sean who have gone before me and have that milestone. To be the first forward to get to that point representing my country is a great experience and hopefully it will continue for a while longer yet," he told reporters.

"I work hard for what I do and have enjoyed every cap I have. We're looking forward to the game on Saturday. Retirement is not on the horizon yet. I have a few more years left in me.

"Can I beat the record? Hopefully. I feel in good shape. If I'm playing well enough I'll keep putting my hand up for selection. It is up to me to make that happen for future games and that is something I'm willing to do."

Australia also provided the opposition when Ford made his debut 12 years ago.
