Rafael Nadal says that Andy Murray is a "good guy" and is not faking the extent of his recent back injury.

Rafael Nadal has jumped the to the defence of Andy Murray after recent criticism over his back injury.

The Scot struggled during his second-round win over Jarkko Nieminen during the French Open, which prompted Virginia Wade to brand him a "drama queen".

German pro Tommy Haas has also hit out at the world number four by suggesting that he made the most of his injury.

However, Nadal does not believe that Murray is faking his back problems and believes that he is genuinely suffering.

"Andy is a great guy. In my opinion he never does this to bother the opponent," said Nadal. "So, that's the most important thing. It's difficult to explain but I really believe in Andy.

"I think he's a fair guy, a good competitor. I'm 100 percent sure that he was doing nothing to bother the opponent, to take advantage."

Nadal went on to claim his seventh triumph at Roland Garros this year.
