Daniel Evans into third round

Daniel Evans books his spot in the third round at Queen's following a 6-4 6-7 6-4 win over experienced Finn Jarkko Nieminen.

World number 277 Daniel Evans has pulled off another shock in the second round of the Aegon Championships at Queen's by overcoming experienced Finn Jarkko Nieminen 6-4 6-7 6-4.

The Brit broke his Finnish opponent in his opening service game, before holding to move into a 2-0 lead. Nieminen improved as the set developed, but it remained on serve as Evans moved into a one-set lead.

Both players lost one service game in the second set as it headed for a tie-break, which was eventually won 8-6 by Nieminen to set up a third and final set.

It was the Finn that took control at 1-1, breaking before serving himself into a 3-1 lead. However, Evans responded with successive breaks in the latter stages to secure a surprise spot in the next round.
