Serena Williams targets Caroline Wozniacki for history

Seventeen-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams targets a US Open final win over Caroline Wozniacki to "make a little history".

Serena Williams has admitted that she is relishing the chance to "make a little history" by beating Caroline Wozniacki in the upcoming US Open final.

Williams secured a comfortable 6-1 6-3 semi-final win over Ekaterina Makarova as she moves one step away from equalling Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova's record of 18 Grand Slam titles.

In contrast, Wozniacki is still chasing her first Slam, but the two-time defending champion at Flushing Meadows is now keen to make history on Sunday.

"She obviously wants to win and go for her first grand slam title and I want to win and make a little history," she told Sky Sports News.

"Whatever happens, I'll be happy with the outcome. She's such a great person. We've been looking forward to this since the draw came out."

Sunday's showpiece is scheduled to begin at around 5pm.
