Theo Walcott wants club spirit with England squad

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott calls for England to show more of a club spirit during their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Theo Walcott has talked up the importance of making the England set-up more "like a club".

England's players have long been criticised for failing to replicate their club form on the international stage, resulting in a number of disappointing performances at major tournaments in recent times.

However, Walcott believes that the current crop of players are enjoying a growing rapport, which he hopes will help them to succeed in the future.

"We want to make this like a club basically, that's what we want," he told reporters.

"We want everyone to have the relationships [in the England set-up] that they have with who they're at clubs with. That's what we're starting to get with this England team.

"I've probably given a few of my secrets away to my teammates this week but it's going to benefit England. That's what we want, it's all about England this week. We need to be positive, we're going to be positive. Everyone's in a good frame of mind."

England will take on Malta at Wembley on Saturday before facing Slovenia away in the second of their World Cup qualifying double-header.
