Likely new head coach Mauricio Pochettino reportedly targets three areas to improve Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly informed Chelsea officials of the areas that he would like to strengthen if he becomes the club's head coach.

For a number of weeks, Pochettino has been suggested as the most likely alternative to Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, the club's last permanent head coach and current caretaker manager.

Regardless of whether the Argentine eventually arrives at Stamford Bridge or not, Lampard will remain in charge of the Blues until the end of the season.

Nevertheless, at the start of this week, it was claimed that Chelsea's hierarchy were confident of having a deal in place with Pochettino by the end of the week.

If that developments occurs as expected, Pochettino will already have plans over how he wants his squad to look for what Todd Boehly and co will expect to be a much-improved season.

According to the Daily Mail, Pochettino would be keen to sign a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and central forward if he arrives at the West Londoners.

The report adds that the former Tottenham Hotspur would preferably like to add players to his squad who have experience of playing in the Premier League.

That is despite Chelsea being heavily linked with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as a replacement for either Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy.

Brighton & Hove Albion duo Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister and Southampton's Romeo Lavia are among the midfielders to have been associated with a potential switch to Chelsea.

RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is known to be on his way to Chelsea, yet the club will look to sign a more recognised number nine due to their failings this season.

Chelsea have been credited with a strong interest in Napoli's Victor Osimhen, but it remains to be seen whether a move for the Nigerian is realistic due to his valuation.

As reiterated by the report, Chelsea must make player sales as soon as possible, preferably before June 30 to boost the 2022-23 accounts.

With no European football for the next campaign, Pochettino or an alternative must also heavily reduce playing numbers due to a reduced calendar.
