Leeds United announce the appointment of Daniel Farke as their new manager on a four-year deal.

Leeds United have announced the appointment of Daniel Farke as their new manager.

The 46-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Elland Road and succeeds Sam Allardyce, who left his temporary role as head coach last month after failing to keep the Whites in the Premier League.

Farke was most recently in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach in his native Germany, but he was sacked following just one season after guiding the club to a 10th-placed finish in the Bundesliga.

Leeds were strongly linked with a move to appoint Patrick Vieira as their new manager, but they have instead decided to recruit former Norwich City boss Farke, who won two Championship titles with the Canaries in 2019 and 2021.

Speaking to the club's official website on his appointment at Elland Road, Farke said: "I'd like to thank everyone for the really warm welcome, I'm really grateful at this moment, to work for this amazing club.

"I feel humble at this time, I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations and I want to repay the trust shown.

"The most important thing is to create a togetherness and unity within this club again and from today onwards, I will work on it with my staff and players, and I trust our supporters will be there when we need them. I can't wait for the first game of the season."

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe added: "After a thorough recruitment process, we are excited to confirm Daniel's appointment as our first team manager.

"His record in the Championship is clear, and I am impressed by his leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League. We welcome Daniel and his staff to the club and look forward to a strong season."

Leeds have confirmed that Farke will be assisted by Eddie Riemer, while Christopher John and Chris Domogalla will also join the German's coaching team having previously worked together at Norwich.

Farke is tasked with steering Leeds out of the Championship at the first time of asking, and he boasts an impressive record in the second tier of English football after winning 71 of his 138 league games during a successful four-year spell in charge of Norwich.

Leeds began pre-season training on Tuesday and they are scheduled to face Manchester United, Monaco and Hearts in friendly matches before kick-starting the 2023-24 campaign with a Championship home clash against Cardiff City on August 6.
