Brendan Rodgers confident of Liverpool success

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that the pain of missing out on winning the Premier League last season can be the driving force for his team's future success.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that his club's failure to win the Premier League last season can inspire them to future success.

The Reds looked on course to land their first league title in 24 years before a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea damaged their hopes.

Their misery was further compounded in their next fixture, when they let slip a three-goal lead in a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace.

Manchester City took full advantage of their slip and went on to win the title, but Rodgers has claimed that those disappointments have united his team and made them more determined to claim silverware.

"Remembering that pain is absolutely what drives you. Remembering the Chelsea game, the Palace game wasn't even the one. The Chelsea game was the one," Rodgers is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"I think that pain is a part of the process of winning - to be able to lose in the manner we did. What it has done with this team and this group, it has made us even more unified and stronger to be more successful in the future."

Liverpool last won the English title in the 1989-90 season.
