Arsenal have quashed rumours that Jack Wilshere failed a drugs test.

Arsenal have denied the rumours that Jack Wilshere previously failed a drugs test at the club.

Wilshere was injured for the entire season after initialy suffering a stress fracture during pre-season that resulted in persistent setbacks. The 20-year-old was also ruled out of England's Euro 2012 tournament and Team GB's Olympic Games squad.

Rumours were circulating on social networking sites that the midfielder had no played for the Gunners due to a failed drugs test. However Arsenal were quick to quash the bogus whispers.

The club released a short statement in The Sun, saying: "The rumoured reason on social networks behind Jack's absence this past season is entirely fabricated and false."

The paper also said that the club were seeking legal advice over the matter.

The last time Wilshere appeared in an Arsenal shirt was during their Emirates Cup friendly with the New York Red Bulls back on July 31.
