Vincent Kompany: 'Belgium can surprise at World Cup'

Vincent Kompany believes that Belgium can cause a "surprise" at this summer's World Cup.

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany has claimed that his team can cause a "surprise" at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Kompany and his fellow Belgians have been pitted in Group H alongside Algeria, Russia and South Korea following an unbeaten qualifying campaign.

With a wealth of Premier League talent in their squad, the defender is confident that his country can make a positive impact at the tournament.

"I think Belgium are in that group of teams who can surprise," he told reporters in Abu Dhabi. "We have great players and a great team spirit as well.

"There are four or five nations who are favourites every time, then a group of teams who can do something great."

Belgium's last appearance at a World Cup came back in 2002.
