A report claims that David Unsworth informed Oxford United on Tuesday that he is not interested in succeeding Pep Clotet as their next permanent manager.

Everton Under-23s boss David Unsworth has rejected the chance to become Oxford United's next manager, according to a report.

The 44-year-old was linked with the vacancy last week and was seen as the favourite to succeed Pep Clotet at the Kassam Stadium.

Unsworth will instead stay in his current position on Merseyside, however, as the Liverpool Echo suggests that he informed the League Two outfit on Tuesday that he is not interested in the job.

Everton are said to have given Oxford permission to open talks with Unsworth last Friday, but discussions were delayed until this week due to an Under-23s fixture against Arsenal on Monday.

Former Wales international Craig Bellamy, currently employed by Cardiff City to overlook the age-grade sides, is also understood to be in the running.
