Fulham have insisted that "personal protocol was followed" when they informed former captain Brede Hangeland of his release from the club.
The Cottagers announced that Hangeland's six-and-a-half-year stay with the club would come to an end this summer having been released with immediate effect following their relegation from the Premier League.
However, the 32-year-old revealed that he was "immensely disappointed" by how the matter was handled by the club, claiming that he was only informed of his release via email.
"The club would like to clarify that all personal protocol was followed and that Brede Hangeland was notified in the right way," read a short club statement on Twitter.
Hangeland made 272 appearances for Fulham having joined them from FC Copenhagen in January 2008.
