Las Palmas out of bottom three in La Liga with Real Sociedad win

Las Palmas secure a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad thanks to goals from Jonathan Viera and Sergio Araujo, moving them out of the bottom three in La Liga.

Las Palmas have moved out of the relegation zone in La Liga at the expense of Real Sociedad by beating David Moyes's side 2-0.

The home side took the lead in the 28th minute when David Simon lifted the ball into the box and Jose Vicente Gomez cushioned a header into the path of Jonathan Viera, who volleyed the ball past Geronimo Rulli.

Viera came close to a second goal when he cut in from the left flank and was afforded space and time to shoot at goal from the edge of the box, but his effort went just over the bar.

Asier Illarramendi came close for the visitors just before the break when he collected the ball inside the box and drilled a low strike towards the near post, but Javi Varas made the save.

In the second half, Las Palmas doubled their lead when Sergio Araujo latched on to a lofted through-ball from Roque Mesa and fired a left-footed strike through the legs of Inigo Martinez and past Rulli.

Tana could have put the game beyond doubt for the home side when he was picked out in the box by Viera, but he failed to beat Rulli with a low shot.

Sociedad pressed to get back into the game and were forced into effort from distance as Sergio Canales tried his luck from 25 yards, only to see his strike saved by Varas.

Canales came within inches of getting a goal back in the dying minutes of the game when he drilled a powerful effort at goal, but his strike cannoned off the crossbar and bounced clear as his side slipped to defeat to put Moyes's team into the bottom three.
