Klopp: 'Don't compare Liverpool to Madrid'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that his side have a long way to go before they can earn comparisons to the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp has said that he has "absolutely no interest" in comparing Liverpool with superpowers such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

The Reds are in the hat for the last four of the Champions League thanks to a 5-1 aggregate victory over domestic rivals Manchester City.

Liverpool, who last reached this stage of the competition a decade ago, now face a two-legged tie later this month for a place in the final.

Klopp insists that his side have a long way to go before they can be compared to some of their potential opponents, however, telling reporters: "I have absolutely no interest in comparing us.

"Barcelona, Bayern [Munich], Real Madrid - they won everything in the last 20 years. In the same time, we pretty much didn't win anything as a club.

"You will not become a winner overnight - it happens from time to time, but it's a coincidence and a little bit of luck. We only can develop. [The Premier League] is unbelievably strong; this competition is unbelievably strong, but I don't care who is in it.

"We are here and we deserved it and I am really happy about that. So far, we fought for each opportunity. To get it and then to use it is so hard, but that's what we will do."

Barcelona will not partake in the semi-finals, having suffered a shock away-goals defeat to Roma on Tuesday evening.
