Steven Gerrard turned down Bayern Munich last summer?

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard reveals that he turned down the advances of a top European side last summer.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he rejected the advances of a top European club last summer, believed to be Bayern Munich, while urging Luis Suarez to do the same and stay at Anfield.

Gerrard has spent his entire 15-year professional career with the Reds, making 630 appearances so far for Liverpool.

The midfielder told The Mirror: "I had a chance to move to a Champions League club last year, but there was no temptation. I have been through that enough before, and that is the message for Luis.

"He (Suarez) will get many more chances to move on, if that's what he wants to do further down the line. I just think a player of his level and quality should wait for the big ones to come. Luis deserves to maybe play in one of the best teams in world football in Barcelona and Madrid and they will come calling for him again.

"So I am hoping, from a biased point of view, that he stays for another year and shows the form he did last year, which could help take Liverpool to that level. Then, maybe, it will be time for him to go next year or the year after. But I really don't think it is the right time for him to go just yet."

Gerrard will lead out Liverpool tomorrow afternoon for his testimonial match against Olympiakos at Anfield.
