Liverpool 'to open Steven Gerrard contract talks'

Liverpool will look to offer Steven Gerrard a new one-year deal to keep him at Anfield next season, according to reports.

Liverpool are reportedly set to begin negotiations with Steven Gerrard in a bid to avoid losing their talismanic midfielder at the end of the season.

The Reds captain has hinted that he would be prepared to leave the Merseyside club if a new contract wasn't forthcoming and that he has no intention of retiring in 2015.

However, the Liverpool Echo claims that Anfield outfit are determined to make sure that they keep Gerrard by offering him a 12-month extension.

It is thought that Liverpool will look to open talks within the next fortnight and it is understood that money will not be an issue for the club.

Gerrard has played every minute of the Reds' Premier League campaign to date.
