Joleon Lescott says that Manchester City were well prepared for their match with Ajax.

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has insisted that his side were fully prepared for their Champions League match with Ajax.

The Premier League champions now sit bottom of Group D after losing 3-1 to the Dutch outfit at the Amsterdam ArenA on Wednesday night.

Some claim that City had not had enough time to practise Roberto Mancini's new formation featuring three men in defence, but Lescott is adamant that there was nothing unusual about his team's preparation.

"It's a lot easier to do things in training because you don't know where the opposition is going to play or how wide, and they showed they were confident on the ball and worked for each other," said Lescott.

"It was hard for us to pinpoint our positional play because they were so organised and compact. I think we were prepared well enough, the same as for any other game, the only difference was we trained at the stadium rather than at Carrington. It was just one of those things.

"We know now it's going to be tough to go through, but we've now got two home games so they are must win for us."

City face Ajax at the Etihad Stadium in two weeks' time.
