Ronald de Boer: 'Memphis Depay can be a superstar'

Ronald de Boer insists that Memphis Depay still has the potential to be a "superstar" despite a disappointment debut season at Manchester United.

Ronald de Boer has insisted that Memphis Depay has the potential to be a "superstar" despite a difficult first season at Manchester United.

The 22-year-old arrived at Old Trafford last summer for a reported fee of £25m, but struggled to establish himself in the first team and soon fell out of favour with manager Louis van Gaal.

Memphis made just four league starts after the turn of the year and was left out of the squad entirely for the FA Cup final on Saturday, but De Boer believes that his compatriot just needs time to adapt.

"Memphis is still a young lad and he has to adapt. Sometimes it takes one or two years. I'm sure he has the quality to be a superstar. He can really do it," he is quoted as saying by PA.

The former PSV Eindhoven winger scored just two league goals in 29 games for United this season.
