Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand suffers an injury in training that could rule him out for up to two months, according to reports.

Rio Ferdinand has suffered a leg injury that could reportedly see the Manchester United defender face a number of weeks on the sidelines.

The 33-year-old complained of pain in a leg muscle in training this week and will need to undergo a scan to assess the injury.

Ferdinand will definitely miss United's trip to Everton on Monday and could be out for up to two months, according to Goal.com.

United now face a crisis at centre-back for the trip to Goodison Park, with Ferdinand joining Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling with injury problems.

Sir Alex Ferguson may be forced to move Michael Carrick into defence to partner Nemanja Vidic at the heart of United's defence.
