Anthony Martial "did not hesitate" to join Manchester United

Manchester United's Anthony Martial claims that he jumped at the chance to join the club from AS Monaco this summer, despite initially being told he would not be leaving.

Anthony Martial has lifted the lid on the transfer process which led to him leaving AS Monaco, claiming that he jumped at the chance to join Manchester United.

The 19-year-old made a high-profile switch to the Premier League during the summer in a deal that could be worth up to £58m.

United were not alone in showing an interest, with both Chelsea and Arsenal also keen on signing the French youngster, but both sides saw their respective approaches knocked back.

Arsene Wenger revealed last week that Monaco had claimed Martial was not for sale, but the forward has now moved to clarify the situation.

"Basically, I was told I was 'untransferable' so I thought I was staying in Monaco," he told French TV channel BFM. "But when I knew about the offer, I did not hesitate a second and it was done quickly.

"I really wanted to continue playing in the Champions League. [Louis] Van Gaal called me and spoke to my mother who did the translation. When I arrived in Manchester I met him, we discussed at length and it was done quickly."

Martial has scored four goals in his first seven games for the Red Devils.
