Steve McClaren: 'Manchester City scoreline harsh on Newcastle United'

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren feels that his side did not deserve to lose 6-1 against Manchester City in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has suggested that his side did not deserve to lose 6-1 against Manchester City this afternoon.

The Magpies took the lead through an Aleksandar Mitrovic header, before Sergio Aguero scored five goals as his side went on to thrash Newcastle, but McClaren insists that there are positives to take from the match.

"We came to win, we set up with a four-four-two, very attack minded," McClaren told Sky Sports News. "We created opportunities, we scored the first, the second disallowed - which was never offside - opportunities again for a third one.

"The goal just before half time I think woke them up, and it was a whirlwind 13 minutes and we lost the game in that 13 minutes.

"There's a lot to work on, but there's a lot of encouraging things and when you look at the score it's a little bit harsher than what we deserved."

Newcastle are currently bottom of the Premier League table, with just three points from eight matches.
