Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille punished by UEFA

PSG, Marseille sanctioned by UEFA
Ligue 1 clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille are punished by UEFA over their fans' behaviour in European competition earlier in March.

French clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille have been sanctioned by UEFA over their fans' behaviour in European competition earlier in March.

PSG were handed four charges by the governing body after the club's supporters interrupted the second leg of their Champions League tie with Real Madrid by using flares and a laser pointer.

Meanwhile, Marseille's Europa League last-16 second leg against Athletic Bilbao was marred by violence and unrest, with supporters clashing and lighting flares inside San Mames.

UEFA's control, ethics and disciplinary body has ordered the closure of PSG's North Stand during the next European game at the Parc des Princes, and has also fined the club €43,000 (£37,542).

Meanwhile, Marseille have been fined €30,000 (£26,197) and banned from taking fans to their Europa League quarter-final away match against RB Leipzig on April 5.

In addition, a ban from selling tickets for a second away game has been suspended for a probationary period of two years.

PSG currently sit top of Ligue 1 but are out of the Champions League, while Marseille are third in the league table.
