Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Neymar is set to undergo surgery in Brazil this week to repair a cracked metatarsal bone.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar is set to undergo surgery in Brazil this week after being diagnosed with a broken foot.

The Brazilian went down at the end of PSG's 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Marseille on February 25 and had to be stretchered off the pitch.

Tests later confirmed that Neymar had sustained a cracked metatarsal bone in addition to a twisted ankle.

"After an initial treatment period of three days inline with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team," PSG said in a statement.

The statement also added that the decision was made "in accordance with the player" and the surgery will be performed by Dr Rodrigo Lasmar, accompanied on site by Professor Saillant, representing PSG.

Neymar will therefore miss Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Real Madrid, but no timescale has been put on his return, although the player's father has estimated a layoff of six to eight weeks.

The 26-year-old joined the Parisian club for a world record £200m fee from Barcelona last August and has scored 29 goals in 30 games.
