Roberto Carlos believes that Zinedine Zidane would be the "ideal" replacement for Jose Mourinho.

Former Real Madrid and Brazil left-back Roberto Carlos has insisted that his ex-teammate Zinedine Zidane would be "ideal" as the club's new coach.

The Spanish side are looking to replace Jose Mourinho, who left to take over Chelsea at the end of the season, and Carlos has given his backing to former teammate Zidane.

"Zidane is ready for any post within Real Madrid," AS.com quotes Carlos as saying.

"With his record, his calmness and his intelligence, he could do anything he wanted: coach, assistant, director.

"He would do everything with a great deal of calm, he's a fantastic person for Real Madrid and he would be an ideal coach."

Zidane played for Real between 2001 and 2006.
