Christoph Metzelder is expecting an emotional experience when he plays his last game for Schalke 04 on Saturday.

Schalke 04 centre-back Christoph Metzelder has admitted that his final professional match on Saturday will be emotional for him.

The 32-year-old, who announced his retirement yesterday, said that there will be plenty of "nostalgia" when he steps onto the pitch for the final time.

"There's a lot of nostalgia," Bundesliga.com quotes Metzelder as saying. "Especially as I'll be stepping out onto the pitch for one last time with the team and my daughter.

"To stand there looking up at the stands knowing that it's my last game for Schalke, not to mention of my career; I'll have to hold back the tears."

Metzelder was capped 47 times by Germany.
