Micky Mellon leaves Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town confirm the departure of manager Micky Mellon amid rumours that he is to take over at Tranmere Rovers.

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has departed the club amid speculation that he will drop down two divisions to take over at Tranmere Rovers.

The 44-year-old took over at New Meadow in May 2014 and earned the Shrews promotion back to League One at the first attempt.

The club narrowly survived in the division last season, however, and are currently in the relegation zone having won just twice from their 11 games so far this term.

In a statement on its official website, Shrewsbury said: "Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has this morning left the club by mutual consent.

"Assistant manager Mike Jackson has also left the club while goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne will take charge of training and Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 game at Bradford City.

"The club would like to thank Micky and Mike for all they have achieved during their times at the club."

Tranmere - currently ninth in the National League - have been without a manager since September 11 following the sacking of Gary Brabin.
