Fabrice Muamba: 'My recovery more than a miracle'

Fabrice Muamba describes his recovery from cardiac arrest as "more than a miracle".

Bolton Wanderers' Fabrice Muamba has opened up about his continuous recovery from cardiac arrest.

Speaking to The Sun, the 24-year-old described overcoming the ordeal as "more than a miracle" and said that his faith in God helped him through.

"What happened to me was really more than a miracle," he told the newspaper.

"On the morning of the game I prayed with my father and asked God to protect me - and he didn't let me down."

The midfielder collapsed during his side's FA Cup game against Tottenham Hostspur last month. Reports claim that his heart stopped for 78 minutes.

However, he was discharged from the London Chest Hospital just over a month after the incident following a rapid recovery.

"I had no pain whatsoever," he said. "No clutching at my chest or tightness like you see when people have heart attacks in movies. Just an odd feeling that's impossible to explain.

"Then I started to see double. It was almost like a dream."

Muamba added: "I just felt myself falling through the air and then felt two big thumps as my head hit the ground in front of me then that was it. Blackness, nothing. I was dead."

Bolton boss Owen Coyle previously admitted that it would not "surprise" him if Muamba made a return to professional football, though whether he will remains unclear.
