Tim Howard: 'It's not the players' job to develop football in America'

Tim Howard believes that it is not the role of the players to develop football in North America, with the responsibility lying with the fans.

USA and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard believes that it is not the players' job to develop football in North America.

Howard, who made a record 15 saves in USA's loss to Belgium, believes that it is up to the fans to watch the game, not the players.

"We go out and play a beautiful game - or at least we try to - and the supporters are either attracted to that or not," Howard told ESPN.

"The numbers have been staggering - people want to watch. America loves winners, we know that. So if we can keep winning and keep playing well, the rest of it will take care of itself."

USA managed to advance from a difficult group only to be knocked out by Belgium in extra time, despite Howard's outstanding performance between the sticks.
