Warrington Wolves come from behind to beat Widnes Vikings

Joel Monaghan scores three tries to help Warrington Wolves come from behind to beat Widnes Vikings 22-19 in the Super League playoffs.

Warrington Wolves needed a strong second half to beat Widnes Vikings in their Super League elimination playoff this afternoon as they edged out their visitors 22-19 this afternoon.

Paddy Flynn got the away side off to a bright start, scoring two tries in the opening 10 minutes to open up a 12-point lead for Widnes.

The Vikings continued to press at the start of the second half, resulting in Rhys Hanbury diving over in the corner, but Joel Monaghan quickly pulled one back for Warrington to keep them in contention at the break.

Monaghan continued to lead the Wolves fightback after the interval, completing his hat-trick 15 minutes into the second period to put the home side ahead for the first time.

He came close to scoring a fourth inside the final 20 minutes, while Widnes continued to apply the pressure as they sought to restore their lead, but neither side managed to add to the score again as Warrington progressed to the semi-finals.
