David Ferrer has reached the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open with a three-set victory over Tommy Haas.
Fourth seed Ferrer broke once to take a cagey opening set 7-5 before Haas fought back to clinch the second 6-4.
The German veteran moved into a 4-2 lead in the deciding set, but the Spaniard broke back twice to seal the win 6-4.
Ferrer will now face fellow countryman and two-time champion Rafael Nadal for a place in the semi-finals.
