Feliciano Lopez edges out Flavio Cipolla

Spain's Feliciano Lopez advances at the Barcelona Open by defeating Flavio Cipolla.

Feliciano Lopez has become the third Spaniard after David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal to advance through to round three of the Barcelona Open this afternoon by defeating Flavio Cipolla.

It proved to be an even opening set, with Lopez requiring just one break to take the lead courtesy of a 6-4 success.

The 30-year-old managed to build upon that advantage in the second set, claiming two of his Italian opponent's service games to open up a 5-2 advantage.

Cipolla responded by holding his next service game, but Lopez followed suit as he wrapped up a 6-4 6-3 win.
