Burnley defender Michael Duff: 'We can handle expectation this season'

Burnley defender Michael Duff insists that he and his teammates can cope with the level of expectation on their shoulders when they head into the Championship season.

Burnley defender Michael Duff has insisted that he and his teammates can handle the expectation surrounding the club as they head into the new Championship season.

Sean Dyche's side were relegated from the Premier League in May, and Duff believes that they will be one of the favourites to bounce back up next summer.

"There is a lot of expectation so it will be a bit different to the last time we went up but we've got to deal with that," Duff told the club's official website.

"We had to deal with being written off all the time last season and having come down you're going to be one of the fancied teams, but I think this league has proven in recent years how difficult it can be.

"We're under no illusions and we won't be waltzing into games thinking we were a Premier League team this time last year so we should win this. That's the good thing we've got here is that most of our players have played in the league for most of their careers. We're fully aware of what we need to do."

The Clarets will face Leeds United at Elland Road in their first Championship game of the campaign on August 8.
