Chelsea allegedly open talks regarding the potential January signing of Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai.

Chelsea have reportedly upped their interest in Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai.

The Blues have put together a phenomenal defensive record with Thomas Tuchel in charge, conceding just 24 goals during their 50 matches.

However, with uncertainty over a number of players, the European champions are having to identify alternatives at the back.

Having been a target for several weeks, Football Insider claims that Chelsea are ready to make a sustained approach for Szalai.

The report claims that discussions have already been held between the relevant parties with Chelsea said to be interested in completing a deal in January.

Despite the 23-year-old possessing a contract until 2025, it is suggested that Chelsea will be able to agree with Fenerbahce should they wish to get a transfer over the line.
