Jordan Henderson was "devastated" by Premier League title failure

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson admits that he was gutted to miss out on the Premier League title and England's failure at the World Cup in Brazil.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has admitted that he was "devastated" by his side's failure to win the Premier League title last season.

Brendan Rodgers's side were on course to win their first top-flight title in 24 years until they were defeated by Chelsea and then drew with Crystal Palace, which allowed Manchester City to claim the top-flight crown.

Henderson also endured disappointment at the World Cup with England as Roy Hodgson's men crashed out of the tournament after defeats in their first two games.

"I was devastated. To see the title slip away at the last minute, and then go out after two games with England really does hurt," Henderson is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"But it makes you even more hungry to get back and do it all again. Hopefully we can win [a title] very soon. On the back of that, the World Cup was really disappointing too, but you can't get too down, you have to get on with it, learn from it and be better equipped."

Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign against Southampton on August 17.
