Wayne Rooney 'excited' by new Manchester United signings

Wayne Rooney backs Manchester United to enjoy an "exciting" season due to the new signings at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney has claimed that Manchester United are in for an "exciting" season due to the new signings at the club.

The Red Devils have brought in five new faces so far this summer, with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin arriving at Old Trafford.

Having finished the last campaign inside the top four, Rooney is hoping that United can push on this term with their improved squad.

"We've had new players come in, quality players, and we feel they can give us an extra gear to what we had last season," the England international told MUTV.

"Obviously the lads who were here already understand how the manager wants us to work. For the first couple of months last season it was probably a bit difficult to take everything in and go out and perform but we fully understand what the manager wants and, now we've added a few players, it's exciting.

"I feel we have the right squad in terms of hoping to be successful in the new season and I think it's an exciting time for the team."

United continue their pre-season campaign on Thursday when they face Paris Saint-Germain in Chicago.
