National League roundup: Forest Green Rovers suffer first defeat

Sports Mole rounds up Tuesday night's action in the National League as Forest Green Rovers lose their 100% record after suffering defeat to Woking.

Forest Green Rovers have suffered their first defeat of the National League campaign after enduring a 2-1 setback at Woking.

John Goddard and Jimmy Keohane scored either side of half time for Woking, and although Kurtis Guthrie pulled a goal back for the league leaders, they couldn't find an equaliser in the closing stages.

Gateshead are in second spot after a second-half strike from Ryan Bowman earned the North-East side a 2-1 victory over Wrexham.

Goals from Harry Pell and Daniel Wright have helped Cheltenham Town move into third place with a 2-0 triumph over Macclesfield Town.

At the other end of the table, Kidderminster Harriers remain without a win, but a last-minute penalty from Reece Styche earned them a 2-2 draw at home to Torquay United.

They have moved level on points with Halifax Town, who slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Guiseley, while Southport sit above both clubs despite letting slip a 2-0 advantage at home to Tranmere Rovers.

Gary Jones and Michael Phenix had given Southport a commanding half-time lead, but goals from Jay Harris and James Norwood earned the visitors a valuable point.

Welling United complete the teams stranded in the relegation zone after they fell to a 1-0 reverse at Aldershot Town, with Richard Brodie getting the goal.

Eastleigh sit just below the playoff places after a Yemi Odubade effort rescued a point away at Altrincham, while Padraig Amond also struck late on to earn Grimsby Town a point at Chester FC.

Barrow have maintained their unbeaten home record with a 1-0 success against Lincoln City, while Bromley came out on top in a five-goal thriller at Boreham Wood.

In the other game of the night, Dover Athletic and Braintree Town played out a goalless draw.
