The home side almost made the perfect start after just seven minutes when Matt Phillips advanced on goal, but his effort smashed off the inside of the post.

Lomana LuaLua was next go to close for Blackpool, but his effort after 30 minutes brought the best out of Watford keeper Scott Loach.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher nearly broke the dead-lock after 51 minutes but his strike from close range whistled past the post after Loach had kept out Callum McManaman.

John Eustace went close for the away side after 75 minutes, but Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart was on hand to produce a block from close range.

Kevin Phillips then had a glorious chance to secure all the points after 83 minutes when he was found by Phillips, but his header from close range cleared the bar.

Blackpool will look to return to winning ways when they travel to Barnsley on Boxing Day, while Watford host Cardiff.
