Ramires "major doubt" for Tottenham Hotspur clash

Ramires is a "major doubt" for Chelsea's trip to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend after suffering a hip injury in their League Cup win at Swindon Town.

Brazilian midfielder Ramires is likely to miss Chelsea's London derby with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday after picking up a hip injury in their Capital One Cup win at Swindon Town.

The 26-year-old and Fernando Torres were among the goals as the Blues avoided a third-round upset against the League One outfit, but their passage into the last 16 of the competition has been blighted by a double midfield injury blow.

Marco Van Ginkel was forced off just nine minutes into the match, before his replacement, Ramires, later left the action, with Chelsea assistant manager Steve Hollands revealing that the latter could miss their trip to White Hart Lane this weekend.

"It wasn't perfect because we've got an injury to Marco," Hollands told reporters. "It's a little bit too early to be certain but it doesn't look good.

"He'll have a scan on Wednesday on the injury to his knee, and his substitute Ramires had to go off with a muscular injury at the top of the hip in the gluteal area which was causing more discomfort as he tried to run it off.

"He'll be a major doubt for the Tottenham game at the weekend. They're the two major disappointments of the evening."

Ramires has played every minute of Chelsea's Premier League campaign to date.
