Crewe Alexandra have signed midfielder Chris Atkinson on a two-year contract following a successful trial at the club.
The 22-year-old had been without a team after being released by Huddersfield Town earlier this summer.
The youngster recently scored during Crewe's 1-1 draw with Chester City in pre-season.
Atkinson's four-year spell with Huddersfield saw him loaned out to clubs including Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City.
Crewe begin their League One campaign away to Fleetwood Town on August 9.
