Darren Fletcher: 'We can win the title'

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is adamant that the club can bounce back from a poor season to reclaim the Premier League title.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has insisted that his side can make the leap from finishing seventh to winning the Premier League in the next campaign.

Liverpool mounted a serious title challenge last season without the distraction of European football and just missed out on the crown to Manchester City due to a late slip-up in form.

Fletcher feels that United can do one better than the Reds and win back the league from their rivals under new boss Louis van Gaal.

He told reporters: "I don't think so, no. We go out to win the league. It's a dangerous mindset to have - to target fourth place. We're not players or a club that thinks like that and we'll be going out to win the league.

"I think Liverpool showed that last year, and we believe we can win the league again. Liverpool didn't have European football last year and they went close to winning the league, so hopefully we can go one better next year."

United face Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup later today.
