Manchester United's reported pursuit of Juventus star Arturo Vidal could be in doubt because manager Louis van Gaal is concerned about the midfielder's knee condition, according to Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time, despite the Premier League club denying that there is any interest in the Chile international.
Vidal impressed during the World Cup in Brazil after racing back to fitness following knee surgery, but Sampaoli believes that the midfielder's fitness raises a question mark.
"United want Vidal but Van Gaal has doubts," Sampaoli told El Mercurio. "Vidal was a great example during the World Cup in Brazil of not playing in the best of conditions.
"Manchester United want him, but what restrains his move to England is Van Gaal, who has doubts over his condition to the knee."
Vidal has previously been quoted as saying that he would be happy to stay in Turin should a switch to the Premier League fail to materialise.
