Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Manchester United Women and Tottenham Hotspur Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Manchester United Women will attempt to record a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions when they play host to Tottenham Hotspur Women on Sunday.

The visitors are looking for a positive response after falling to a narrow defeat in their most recent Women's Super League outing against Liverpool.

Man United have experienced a positive start to the 2024-25 season, having recorded three consecutive victories without conceding.

The Red Devils thrashed West Ham United 3-0 in their WSL opener at Old Trafford, before they edged out Everton by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.

They went on to kick off their Women's League Cup campaign with a win against rivals Liverpool, with Melvine Malard and Rachel Williams getting on the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory.

Marc Skinner's side have had plenty of time to reflect upon those three victories after last Sunday's meeting with Chelsea was postponed due to a conflict with the Blues' Women's Champions League schedule.

As a result, Man United will be well-rested for their first competitive meeting with Spurs since claiming a commanding 4-0 win in May's Women's FA Cup final.

The Red Devils have fared well in top-flight games against Spurs, having won eight and drawn two of their 10 WSL encounters.

Tottenham have experienced a mixed start to the season, with their four competitive matches producing two wins, one draw and one defeat.

Spurs kicked off the campaign with a dominant 4-0 win over newly-promoted Crystal Palace, before they salvaged a 2-2 draw in their away meeting with Aston Villa.

Robert Vilahamn's side then warmed up for a WSL game against Liverpool with a 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the Women's League Cup.

Tottenham looked set to take a point off Liverpool after they showed great character to come from behind on two occasions, however, a controversial stoppage-time penalty condemned them to a 3-2 defeat at Brisbane Road.

As a result, Spurs are currently in seventh position with four points from three matches, leaving them two points adrift of their fourth-placed opponents.

Tottenham will take a four-game unbeaten away league run into Sunday's fixture, but they have had to settle for 2-2 draws in each of their previous three WSL away matches, including their last trip to Leigh Sports Village in April.

Team News

Manchester United Women's Ella Toone on September 21, 2024© Imago

Man United remain without the services of Evie Rabjohn, who is continuing to work on her rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Anna Sandberg and Emma Watson are both doubts while Malard will have to be assessed after being forced off in the League Cup clash with Liverpool.

After rotating his side against Liverpool, Skinner could revert back to the side that started the league win over Everton.

Celine Bizet could have a role to play off the bench against her former club after leaving Tottenham for Man United in the summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham midfielder Kit Graham is a long-term absentee after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season.

Shuang Wang and Amy James-Turner are expected to miss out, while Ella Morris will have to be assessed after being absent from the last three matchday squads.

Despite conceding three goals against Liverpool, Vilahamn is set to keep faith in the back four of Ash Neville, Molly Bartrip, Clare Hunt and Amanda Nilden.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Bethany England may be considered for a starting spot after featuring as a substitute in the opening three league games.

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Tullis-Joyce; Riviere, Le Tissier, Turner, Galton; Clinton, Janssen, Naalsund; Geyse, Toone, Terland

Tottenham Hotspur Women possible starting lineup:

We say: Manchester United Women 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur Women

Having won three consecutive games without conceding, Man United will be in a confident mood ahead of Sunday's tricky WSL meeting with Tottenham.

While we think that the Red Devils might concede, we do believe that they will have the extra quality required to clinch a narrow victory.
