Wigan Athletic have announced the departure of Grant Holt by mutual consent.
The 34-year-old former Norwich City striker was due to remain with Wigan until the end of the season, but his contract has been terminated early.
Discussing Holt's exit, Latics boss Gary Caldwell told the club website: "Grant's career speaks for itself, and his experience has certainly been valued here at Wigan Athletic.
"In my time as manager, Grant has given nothing short of his all in training and in the matches he has played but, with competition for places fierce, both Grant and the club felt it was best he moved on to get the first-team football he requires at this stage of his career.
"His knowledge of the game and ability has never been in question and I am sure he will have a lot to offer wherever his future takes him."
Holt failed to have a real impact with Wigan after joining them from Norwich, making 27 appearances and scoring just two goals in two-and-a-half years with the Latics.
