Rafael Nadal continues the defence of his French Open title with a comfortable straight-sets win over Juan Monaco.

Rafael Nadal has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open in a comfortable fashion after clinching a 6-2 6-0 6-0 victory over Juan Monaco.

The former world number one started off in scintillating form in the opening set by claiming the first break and executing a number of powerful and precise forehand shots across the clay court.

While Monaco did manage to claim two games on the board, the Argentina professional did not have enough to challenge the number two seed, who stormed through the first set 6-2.

Nadal continued his dominance in the second, while Monaco failed to test the Spaniard, who breezed through the set without any challenge from his opponent.

The third and final set was another simple task for the 26-year-old, whose swift movement around the court and damaging returns prevented Monaco from getting any hold on the game.

Nadal will face Nicolas Almagro in the quarter-finals of the competition.
